Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021

Some nice eye candy and desirable Bobby Orr autographs are available here, with Bobby joined by fellow legendary Boston d-man Ray Bourque in a matted and framed card display. The inserts include modern jersey/patch cards of both with both also appearing together on one Original 6 Time Lines jersey card, with both autographing an SP Sign of the Times card, numbered “73/99” and valued these days by Beckett at $200. Four other framed displays feature Orr cards, but like the larger one has cards taped into place from behind, while three loose cards include Bobby’s classic signature. A black marker job appears on a golden ’96-97 Pinnacle production (the black edges on the back are markedly worn), with gold ink used to sign a Future Trends issue that captures Orr in his final last great hurrah when he led Team Canada to the tournament championship at the 1976 Canada Cup. There’s also an auto’d pack pull; Signs of Xcellence is from SPx’s 2001-02 issue and books for $250 – beauty. One other modern card has pieces of Gretzky and Orr game-worn jerseys and carries a $400 book value; 1999-00 is when Ultimate Victory’s Legendary Fabrics card was issued, with the example numbered “44/99”. ....Now then, fans of Bobby’s cards from his playing days are well served with close to two dozen (23), led chronologically by a well-centered but only P-F second year card (’67-68 Topps #92). A ’68-69 Topps card is crease-free and would be rated an attractive VG+ example if not for four pieces of magic tape on the back edges. Best condition-wise are cards from ’70-71 – two trophy winner cards and the All-Star card are EX-MT, with a subtle light (lower right) corner crease denying the regular (#3) card the same assessment. All others have a crease and/or corner wear lowering them to a VG average. A swell throw-in is an Orr RC reprint. Numerous possibilities with this splendid stash. Oh, and we almost forgot – also present is a 1990s Highland Mint “gold” metal 3-D card that however shows handling/wear, with its original box no longer present.
It should be noted that the Orr/Bourque frame is not professionally done, with repair to the backing suggested.
