Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2021
While early hockey team photo postcards are quite difficult to locate, images featuring individual players are all but non-existent, with collectors clamoring for quality examples. This lot features 49 individual player postcards, a group that would take considerable time and energy to replicate. Spanning right from the turn-of-the-century until approx the late-1930s, each specimen features a postal reverse, with many filled-out and mailed. Highlights include a rarely seen goaltender image, with this postcard appearing signed by the netminder, followed by a second postcard signed by the player (Bert McIntosh). There are six different postcards that depict either two or three players, two matching postcards of players from the same team along with an additional group of five matching postcards featuring players from the same club. There are also two female player postcards, an image of a man with just skates and more!
Condition ranges, with the majority of the postcards in pleasing but lower technical grade which includes corner and surface wear along with toning and the odd crease. Two of the postcards also have material loss with trimmed areas.
