Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2021
Produced while at the height of his powers, completely thrashing the record book and the way the game is played, this dignified bronze depicts the greatest player in the history of the sport, the iconic Wayne Gretzky. Produced in 1985 and limited to a mere 200 copies - production halted, with only 5 examples believed to exist in the hobby, with Wayne himself said to own the first cast - the 14” bronze statue portrays The Great One in full wind-up, with his famous blond locks and determined countenance expertly recreated. Mounted over a 5” x 7” oval marble and tiered wooden base with brown felt underside, the bronze sports a weight of 5 lbs, with the sculptor Manfred Pervich (“Manfred”) engraved to the stick blade along with the limited-edition number of “2/200”. In gorgeous condition, there is light wear to the base, with a bit of tape residue on the felt underside.
