Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

Losing a mere 13 of the 44 contests during the 1927-28 NHL regular season, the Boston Bruins finished in first spot in the American Division on the strength of a talented squad that included a number of legendary Hall of Fame members including Eddie Shore, Harry Oliver, Sprague Cleghorn, Frank Fredrickson and Dit Clapper. Fredrickson would spend a trio of seasons in Beantown from 1926 to 1929, winning a Stanley Cup championship with the Bruins during his final season with the club. We have an original panoramic photo of the 1927-28 Bruins, with this already desirable specimen further augmented by not one, but two signatures from the 1920 Olympic gold medalist. At approx 8” x 13 ½”, the sepia-tone photo has been affixed to cardboard, with Fredrickson signing beneath his image, adding the date of “28/12/36”. The reverse has each player handwritten, with this fully executed in Fredrickson’s hand.
The signature beneath his image has “Cordially Yours” preceding, with the thin dark ink autograph a bit light but presenting well, with the handwritten black ink text by Fredrickson over the reverse to include “The Boston Bruins 1927-28 – Defeated by Ottawa Senators in Stanley Cup Series – that team…” with the players then all handwritten beneath. The photo itself exhibits some toning along with a few small corner creases, with a vertical crack to the image that runs from the base to Eddie Shore’s shoulder.
