A neat action shot of Chicago Cubs’ legendary shortstop Joe Tinker is offered up on this 1916 Sporting News issue, part of a 200-card set and available with either blank backs or with various advertising on the reverse. Reportedly the first star player to jump to the upstart Federal League in 1914, Tinker as player-manager, led the Chicago Whales to the pennant in 1915, with the Whales drawing more fans than the Cubs for two seasons. Back with the Cubs the next year in the same role after the demise of the Federal loop, Tinker closed out his illustrious career. Card #174 here was inspected and slabbed VG-EX 4 at PSA where, out of nine blank back versions, just three better this Pop 2. Another splendid contributor to an ultra-admirable collection.
