Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
One of the National League’s youngest players when he became the Chicago Cubs’ regular second baseman in 1903, Johnny Evers was an established star and an important cog in Chicago’s back-to-back World Series triumphs (1907, 1908) when his image appeared on a box-top of Philadelphia confectioner Jay S. Meyer in 1909, with this example a peerless PSA chart-topper. Of the seven such cards to have landed at company headquarters, this tempting NM-MT 8 relic is superior to all others, with a NM 7 and three EX 5s also on record. It’s also one of the highest of all W555 cards, one of just a dozen to earn NM-MT 8 recognition, with two MINT 9s and a NM-MT+ 8.5 edging them, out of the sparse 160 contingent inspected in the history of PSA. Excellence awaits!
