Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Hailing from the twilight of his remarkable Hall of Fame career in the early-2000s, when he was a member of the Los Angeles Kings, Luc Robitaille used this CCM helmet during his final NHL season in 2005-06, where he appeared in 65 games, and it’s been photo-matched. Accompanying the desirable head gear, we have two pairs of mis-matched skates, with one “set” having use attributed to the 2005-06 season, while the second set is photo-matched to games also from Robitaille’s final season. The pair attributed to the 2005-06 season has a different type of blade then examples seen, and we should note that the photo-matched examples were matched as individual skates, and we are unsure if they were ever worn as a pair. From his personal collection, a signed LOA from Luc Robitaille will accompany.
The helmet is a CCM model in solid white with intact Itech visor, chin strap and interior padding. Kings decals grace each side, with “20” over the reverse along with an NHL decal. Good use is shown, with numerous scratches and wear throughout, with some minor staining to the interior padding and additional wear over the reverse neckline pad. Getty Images #57352914 (March 30, 2006) and #57539758 (April 17, 2006 – final NHL game) have both been matched to the black mark to the left of the CCM logo on the front of the helmet, and to the tiny black dot just above "Canada" on the front of the helmet above the CCM logo. For the skates attributed to 2005-06, the Bauer Vapor models with Tuuk Custom+ blades and holders have a sticker with “Lucky 30/60 3/16/06 1” on the underside of the left skate, with the pair showing nice game-use, with wear to the material over the boots including cuts to the toe sections, with additional wear and marks to the blades and holders. The photo-matched pair is also Bauer Vapor models with Tuuk Light-Speed blades and holders, with lighter use exhibited on the pair. A sticker with “Lucky 30/60 3/10/06 1” resides on the underside of the right skate, while “3/24/06” is handwritten on the underside of the boot on the left skate. Regarding the photo-matches, for the right skate, Getty Image #57344792 (April 15, 2006) has been matched to the black marks and black dot on the back of the blade holder, while Getty Image #57539729 (April 17, 2006) has been matched to the pair of black marks on the front of the blade holder (exterior part) and to the small rips in the material in the middle exterior portion of the skate. For the left skate, Getty Images #57339199 (March 29, 2006) and #71097269 (April 1, 2006) have both been matched to the triangular-shaped tear on the interior side of the skate.
A portion of the sales from the Luc Robitaille personal collection will benefit the Echoes of Hope Foundation.
