Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

Low grade batch of pre-war cards here still has intrigue and appeal, with Hall of Famer “Shorty” Green and his brother “Red” of Hamilton Tigers and New York Americans fame both appearing on scarce Maple Crispette cards from 1924-25. There are two cards of Red, while Shorty was the captained the Tigers when the players went on strike prior to the ’24-25 playoffs. The entire team was suspended and the team relocated to New York the following season. One of the Red Green cards (G) is nicer than the two other Greens (P), hampered by side-to-side creasing, with however the backs problem-free, similar to Maple Crispette cards of (first-year Boston Bruin) #6-Lloyd Cook RC and 26-Charlie Langlois RC, both also Poor. Also less-often-seen than some other pre-war issues are four ’37-38 World Wide Gum cards, with 19-Cy Wentworth, 37-Joe Lamb and 87-Ott Heller all P and 132-Tuffy Griffiths RC (F) without unsightly creases. O-Pee-Chee Series “D” contributors are missing their top sections but 107-Mike Karakas RC and 129-Aurele Joliat are more than commons and will still be fun to acquire.
