This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2020
Featuring attractive and well executed images by noted hockey artist and collector Carleton McDiarmid, the Hockey Hall of Fame issued a set of 146 postcards in 1983 paying tribute to enshrined members. This lot offers a signed collection of 90 which includes 70 signed by deceased Hall members (the total number of deceased signers is 42, with duplication present). At 4” x 6”, each sports a portrait and game-action image along with a postal reverse with short bio. Highlights of the deceased signers include The Rocket (2), Beliveau (3), Geoffrion (4), Clancy, Primeau, Howe, Lumley, Brimsek, Coulter and others, while the living members include Dryden, Orr, Armstrong (2), Ullman, Mahovlich (3) and others. The majority of the signatures have been scripted in blue sharpie or ballpoint and present beautifully.
The additional deceased signing players include Lach (2), Richard (2), Bouchard (2), Johnson (4), Moore (2), Reardon (2), Horner, Day, Bailey, Stanley (2), Kennedy, Kelly, Bower (3), Lindsay (2), Abel (2), Gadsby, Pronovost (3), Mikita, Pilote, Schmidt (2), Quakenbush, Worsley, Howell, Bathgate (3) and Charlie Rayner, followed by Builders Francis (2), Wirtz, H. Molson (2) and Foster Hewitt, and referees/linesman Ashley, Storey (3), Chadwick (2) and Frank Udvari. The remaining living signers include Cournoyer (2), Delvecchio (2), Hall (3), Bucyk (2) and Rod Gilbert (3). The majority of the postcards show light handling wear with the odd small wrinkle or corner ding, with the exceptions being the Hewitt (bleeding signature with wrinkles to the postcard throughout) and one of the Molson cards (signature almost rubbed away). The Primeau, Day and Clancy also have scrapbook residue over the reverses.
