Embracing the mighty Canadian institution early-on, the Ivy League has iced collegiate hockey teams for well over a century, with Harvard, Yale and Brown all boasting programs that begun in the 19th century. This lot offers a collection of college hockey programs from the Roaring Twenties totaling 4, with a seldom-seen Dartmouth calendar book from 1909 that features images of the school’s hockey and baseball clubs. First, we have a program for a Jan 2, 1926 match between Dartmouth and the University of Toronto, with the Big Green captain Mansur featured on the cover (6” x 9”) and light to moderate wear with toning, spotting and a few creases. This is followed by a Feb 9, 1929 program for a tilt between Yale and Dartmouth (5” x 8”), with the simple fold-over affair having the line-up, a single horizontal crease and minor paper loss on the reverse. Next, we have a single sheet program produced for one of a trio of games taking place between Harvard and the University of Toronto on Dec 28, 29 and 31 of 1933 (6” x 9”), with the score filled out on the reverse for the Dec 31 match (Toronto 4, Harvard 1). There are two large fold lines along with toning and surface wear. The final program is for the “International Intercollegiate Hockey Championships” between the University of Toronto and Princeton, on Dec 27, 1926 (7” x 11”), with members of the U of T pictured including honourary coach Conn Smythe. The program shows heavy wear and toning, with tears, paper loss and clear tape added. The 1909 Dartmouth calendar book is 9” x 10 ½” and designed to have each page “flipped over”, with holes punched for assembly along the top (the pages are all currently detached). The school's crest is embossed on the cover, with each page featuring a calendar month along with either school buildings or athletic teams from 1908 pictured, with a few additional pages featuring the school president and additional campus buildings. The covers exhibit toning and water staining (more so on the back cover), with additional toning and water staining to the majority of the calendar pages. As an added bonus, an 8” x 10” media photo from a 1960s match between Cornell and St Lawrence is included, along with a publicity photo (showing Ryan O’Neal as a Harvard hockey player) from the 1970 film Love Story (moderate wear to both).
