Stanley Cup champions within just their first decade of existence, the New York Islanders built a powerhouse team throughout the 1970s, culminating in a quartet of championships while icing some of the era’s greatest players. This lot contains 16 game-used sticks (some signed and team-signed), with each originating from a former New York Islander that saw action in the 1970s/1980s, with the majority members of the iconic dynasty. Sticks are present from all of the club’s major stars including Bossy, Trottier, Potvin, Smith, Gillies, Tonelli, Goring and others, with the majority having the player’s name stamped along with the original intact tape job. To build a collection of this caliber piecemeal would take considerable effort.
The breakdown for the individual sticks is as follows; John Tonelli - 1990s Sher-Wood model with no name and #27, signed in black marker near the heel, light overall wear; Billy Harris - mid-1970s CCM Custom Pro model with “Harris” stamped and “15” handwritten, light overall wear; Mike Bossy - early-1980s Titan TPM with “M Bossy” stamped + date stamp with just “198” visible, with heavy wear throughout and clear tape later added to reinforce the blade tape; Bryan Trottier - 1982-83 team-signed KOHO Silverfibre model with “Trottier” stamped (faded) and “19” handwritten – date stamped “8 Sept 1982”, with heavy wear throughout and approx 16 signing in ballpoint (heavy fading) including Tonelli, Gillies, Potvin, Nystrom, Bourne and others; Clark Gillies - 1979-80 Canadien Fiberglass model with “Gillies” stamped and “9” handwritten – date stamped “10 Sept 1979”, with moderate wear; Denis Potvin - 1984-85 team-signed Titan TPM 2020 model with “D Potvin” stamped, signed near blade in marker – date stamped “March 7 1985”.
