Occurring on the second day of January in the City of Brotherly Love and the fifth installment of the popular outdoor spectacle, the 2012 NHL Winter Classic pitted the hometown Flyers against the Atlantic Division rival-New York Rangers, with the Blueshirts edging out a victory in front of over 46,000 at Citizens Bank Park. This puck was used by Claude Giroux of the Flyers to notch the 2nd goal of the game, at 14:21 of the second to put the Bullies up by 2, with Maxime Talbot and Scott Hartnell both assisting. Featuring a Winter Classic logo with NHL shield crest over the reverse, tape has been added along the side with the particulars handwritten including “Goal #2” (the game’s second goal) and “Giroux” (his 18th goal of the season). A decal numbered “143625” has also been affixed to the puck, with a matching LOA to accompany along with a COR, both from MeiGray.
We should note that 18 pucks from the 2012 match (4 goal pucks and 14 game-used pucks) were handed directly from an on-ice official to an NHL/MeiGray Authentication Program director to be authenticated and labeled, including the offered example.
