Turning to coaching after his playing career, Sandy McCarthy appeared for seven different NHL clubs over his 11-season career, including Boston, Calgary and Tampa Bay. This photo-matched Lightning alternate captain’s jersey was worn by the Toronto native in 1998-99, his second of two seasons with the club. A size “58” fly tag remains affixed to the collar, with embroidered NHL and CCM crests over the reverse bottom hem. Styled with a textured and partially embroidered Lightning team crest, the black V-neck has been accented with “10” in stylized and oversized tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers, with “McCarthy” across the nameplate in matching oversized letters. The 1999 All-Star Game patch is also present, situated over the upper right chest, with matching alternate crests over each shoulder. An LOA from the Lightning will accompany, along with a COR from MeiGray.
Sporting a few fabric pulls and washed-out marks over the lower front, there are a few additional marks over each sleeve, with a small slit over the left elbow. We should also note that the back of the collar has been repaired, with the fight strap showing signs of repeated washings. Getty Image #395982 from Jan 7, 1999, has been matched to the washed-out black mark on the right area of the "0" of "10" on the right sleeve, to the material pull on the right shoulder, to the two spots with "extra" threading near the right edge of the team patch on the right shoulder, and to a number of white loose threads around the All-Star Game patch.
