The New York Islanders promptly took over where the Montreal Canadiens had left off, winning four straight Stanley Cups as the Habs had done previously, with their run beginning in the 1980 post-season. Then a 30-year old centerman, Butch Goring, who had joined the Islanders for the last 12 games of the regular season after coming over from Los Angeles, was the key piece needed to complete the puzzle for the Long Island squad. The veteran laced ‘em up for the full 21 post-season games, ending up fourth on the team in playoff points. Offered is Goring's game-worn Islanders jersey from the historic 1980 Stanley Cup Final, photo-matched to a classic shot of Goring drinking from that first of four Stanley Cups, with the white mark of the number 2 on the left sleeve and half a dozen plus of loose threads on the same number 2 visible in the photo. Two loose threads at the top of the "N" in the team's crest also add to the all-important photo match of this gamer tagged in the collar as a size 48, with "Goodman and Sons" (partially detached) and "Bill Vanderburg" tags alongside. The classic Islanders team crest in layered tackle twill has been utilized, with “21” over the sleeves and verso, with the left sleeve featuring the 1980 Lake Placid patch. Exhibiting good desirable game-use, there are a few scuffs and burns over the front band, along with a few additional minor marks and puckering to the team crest. There is also heavy pilling to the right side of the outer collar, with a faint stain over the left. A small team repair is visible near the left cuff, with the fight strap cut-away and removed. Worn by an especially integral component during the genesis of the New York Islanders first Stanley Cup championship, this historic sweater represents the golden era of one of hockey’s most iconic and legendary dynasties. Originating from his personal collection, a signed LOA from Butch Goring will accompany.
