Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
From the immortal Summit Series in 1972, we have a pair of commemorative silver coins with their original display boxes, including a rarely-seen player’s medal (it’s unknown what player the medal was originally presented to). At 2” in diameter, the coins feature crossed Canadian and Russian flags embossed atop a laurel wreath with “Hockey Canada 1972”. This central image is flanked by “Canada vs USSR” engraved on each side. The reverse features an embossed image of two generic players chasing after a puck, one representing each country. Stamped “Sterling” along each edge with 3 hallmarks, the player’s medal also has “Player’s Medal” stamped. Both coins show moderate surface wear but no damage, with a few dings visible along edges of the player’s medal. The original navy-coloured Wellings display boxes with details listed on the lids will accompany, with each showing wear from age/use.
