Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
The first of its kind we have ever handled and ready to set the pulse racing of any true Bobby Orr collector, this attractive die-cut advertising display feature’s the eight-time Norris winner in a generic “NHL Players” uniform, and was possibly utilized for the 1970 Post shooters, 1970-71 Dad's Cookies, 1970-71 Colgate stamps or 1972-73 Post Bobby Orr action transfers promotions. At just over 19” in length and constructed from cardboard, “Bobby Orr” appears over the stick along with a facsimile signature, with the blade broken off but included. Also included in this desirable Orr lot, we have a vintage framed mirror (16” x 20”) that according to our consignor, was made without the superstar’s endorsement, with Bobby likeness apparently “disguised” with a crudely-fashioned mustache.
The die-cut piece exhibits wear to the surface and along edges, with a few creases also visible. Tape has also been used to repair breaks, with both residue and tape remaining in spots. There are also a few pinholes, including on the broken stick section. The mirror feature’s an image of Orr, with iconic number “4” and trademark tape job, with light surface wear to both the mirror and blond wooden frame.
