An all-Chicago Black Hawks lot here features a dozen somewhat bewildering 1952-53 Parkhurst cards, hailing from the same consignor who remembers buying considerable amounts of packs from the same corner store back in the day. Like complete sets that we built from the hoard, these cards are also cut oddly, many of them measuring short or narrow and some with uneven/not straight edges and borders. The mostly crease-free lineup is led by Hall of Famers 27-Bill Mosienko and 56-Bill Gadsby (small crease) and completed by 16-Babando, 26-Hucul, 29-Kryzanowski (crease), 30-Gardner, 32-Sclisizzi RC, 33-Pete Conacher RC, 36-Gee, 38-McFadden, 40-Glover and 41-Couture (crease). Because of the cuts, we’ll refrain from assessing grades. …..Also contributing here is a February 11, 1935 Time magazine featuring a swell shot of Chicago shot-stopper Lorne Chabot on the cover and in VG condition and accompanied by a neat newspaper “Hockey Sidelights” article telling of the goalie’s career. Two matte-finish original 8” by 10” photos of Ernie Dickens and Red Hamill feature the famous “Turofsky” photographer’s stamp on the back while “Reg Hamilton” in pen identifies a circa-1946 glossy 8 by 10, also in attractive condition. Classic Nestor & Johnson Hawks team photos total five, with a ’50-51 (EX) example the nicest and joined by (VG) ’48-49 and ’59-60 group shots, while rough (Poor) are pictures of the ’36-37 and ’55-56 squads. Dandy complements are big Black Hawks envelopes, mailed in April of ’49 and December ’59.
