Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
Seventy enscapsulated treasures here are highlighted by an even dozen players later elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame, with legends George Hainsworth and Bill Cook, (both slabbed VG-EX+ 4.5), appearing in killer Saskatoon Crescents uniforms and close to a decade prior to their official rookie cards(!). Of “redeemed” cards (Paulin’s were actually issued from 1924 to ’26), the Cook is second to just one EX 5 at PSA, while the Hainsworth is third highest among all varieties. All-time great Newsy Lalonde (VG 3 (MK)) completes the fabulous Saskatoon trio, with #15-Lorne Chabot one of three condition leaders at EX 5. It’s a Pop 1 PSA leader among stamp redemption cards and second overall, while 31-Art Gagne (EX 5) is a Pop 2, with none higher in any variety. All cards offered indeed were redeemed for a prize and have “The Paulin Chambers Co. Ltd.” stamped on the back. Some redeemed cards back in the day were returned with a punch hole, thus three varieties exist. Two other 4.5s and (13) at VG-EX 4 (22-Dick Irvin (MC), 69-Harry Oliver) are next, with the fascinating story (and more photos) continuing on our website.
The other EX 5 is 44-Ty Arbour, while following the group of (13) VG-EXs is a trio at VG+ 3.5 (36-Reise, 51-Tuckwell and 61-Oatman), while ten VG 3s are highlighted by HOFers 28-George Hay, 30-Barney Stanley and 41-Bullet Joe Simpson. Next is a GOOD+ 2.5 (47-Johnny Sheppard) and 19 at GOOD 2. Among 2s are HOFers 45-Duke Keats, 63-Herb Gardiner and 70-Rusty Crawford (MC), as well as 19-Bill Brydge and 27-Charlie McVeigh (MC). Completing are four at FR 1.5 and (13) deemed PR 1, with the only big name being 62-Red Dutton (MC). There are total of 20 with MC qualifiers, seven of them in the latter PR 1 group. Players performed in the Western Canada Hockey League for teams in Saskatoon, Regina, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Victoria. Splendid scarcities will marvelously enhance a pre-war/encapsulated card shrine.
