Best remembered for his role in “The Goal”, sending Bobby Orr airborne after the phenom scored the Cup-winning goal in the 1970 Stanley Cup finals, Noel Picard first appeared in 16 games for his hometown Montreal Canadiens in 1964-65. Six seasons with St Louis would follow which included a trio of finals appearances, with a swan-song season spent with Atlanta, in 1972-73. Originally obtained directly from Picard, this extremely rare and highly desirable photo-matched Blues alternate captain’s jersey was worn by the defenceman during the club’s inaugural season in 1967-68, which also served as his rookie campaign. A Rawlings label with “48” sizing is affixed over the inside hem, next to a laundering tag. Styled with the iconic Blues team crest fully administered in layered tackle twill, “4” appears over the sleeves and verso in matching material, with the alternate’s “A” placed over the left breast. We should also note the squared-off shoulders, with this trait only found on first-season jerseys.
A stick mark is visible over the front band, with additional marks, scuffs, fabric pulls and board burns over each sleeve including resulting red paint transfer over the right elbow. There is also light pilling to interior and exterior locations, with team repairs situated on the left sleeve (3), right sleeve and left shoulder. An included numeric image has been matched to the big rectangular-shaped team repair on the lower left sleeve, and to the repairs on the lower cuff below, showing the white threading in the repair.
