Captaining the famous Winnipeg Falcons to the gold medal at the 1920 Winter Olympics, Frank Fredrickson starred in both the PCHA and NHL, winning Stanley Cup championships with clubs from both leagues including the Boston Bruins. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a typed letter signed by the 1958 HOF inductee, along with a signed photo. At 8 ½” x 11” and on London Life Insurance letterhead, the Jan, 1946, communication has the Icelandic superstar mentioning the accompanying photo, with the black ink signature impossible to improve upon. The 4” x 5” photo is dated “7/1/46” and pictures Fredrickson in his Canadian Military uniform holding a pair of skates, with a personalization to Hamlyn added to the black ink signature. Fredrickson would pass in 1979 in his 83rd year.
The letter exhibits a fold line, edge wear and light toning, with a pair of punched holes over the top section for binder insertion. A notation over the reverse state’s that this letter was received by Hamlyn shortly after being sent, in January of 1946. The photo signature is lighter at the beginning, with a crease that runs top to bottom over the left side of the photo, with this not affecting the image or signature. A few background images in the photo have also been crossed out, with a pencil notation and paper residue over the reverse.
