Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
A multi-sport athlete who began his rise to stardom with the youth squad of the Montreal Crystals in the 1890s, Richard Robinson “Dickie” Boon would help the legendary winged-wheelers of Montreal capture a pair of Stanley Cup championships in 1902 and 1903 before earning Lord Stanley’s hardware an additional four times as manager of the Montreal Wanderers. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a rare typed letter signed by the 1952 HOF inductee. Fashioned on his personal letterhead, the Feb 4, 1954 communication has Boon relating a belated “very best wishes” to Hamlyn and his wife for 1954. Boon has added a flawless blue ballpoint signature that is just a bit light at the beginning due to the writing instrument, with absolutely no fading. Reaching the age of 83, Boon passed away in May of 1961.
In beautiful condition, sporting just a pair of original horizontal fold lines, the letter also has holes punched along the top from previous binder insertion.
