An honoured member of the Hockey Hall of Fame despite playing just a single game in the NHL, Barney Stanley rose to prominence over a century ago dressing for the legendary Vancouver Millionaires in the PCHA. Additional seasons would be spent in the WCHL and AHA, with Stanley serving as just the second head coach of the Chicago Black Hawks, in 1927-28. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a handwritten letter signed by the 1963 HOF inductee. At approx 5 ¾” x 8” (folded), the single-page fold-over letter dated “May 19/67” has Stanley mentioning his nephew, Stanley Cup-champion Allan Stanley, and he apologizes for not being able to furnish a playing-days photo. Passing away in Edmonton in 1971, Stanley was 77.
The letter itself remains in excellent condition, with no issues for the text or signature, with just a pair of punched holes along the top section for binder insertion.
