Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
One of the smallest to ever play the game, Aurel Joliat spent his entire 16-season career with the Montreal Canadiens, winning three Stanley Cup championships along with the Hart Memorial Trophy as league MVP in 1934. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a vintage photo signed by the early superstar. At 7 ¼” x 9 ½”, Joliat is pictured in full uniform in a studio setting, signing beneath his image and adding a personalization to Hamlyn. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1947, Joliat would pass in the spring of 1986, at the age of 84.
The signature displays beautifully, with light wear to the photo itself including a few wrinkles and some toning over the reverse. There is also a stamp from Photographer Rice, along with a pencil notation over the upper reverse stating that this photo was received by Hamlyn, on Sept 25, 1944.
