Enjoying a somewhat lengthy career despite going undrafted, netminder Gary Inness would spend time in both the NHL and WHA throughout the 1970s, appearing for Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Washington. Highly desirable and an absolute prize for the plethora of collectors and historians that cherish goal masks and their evolution, we have the example worn by Inness during both the 1974-75 and 1975-76 seasons with Pittsburgh as well as for a short time with Philadelphia in 1975-76, and it’s been PHOTO-MATCHED. Made by historic maker Greg Harrison, the thought-provoking specimen feature’s intact strapping including black leather buckling (one leather strap has been changed to a plastic clasp, with the alteration appearing period), with an expertly executed Flyers logo painted by Harrison over the forehead and V-shaped orange stripes with black bases over the check sections. LOAs from both Gary Inness and Greg Harrison will accompany.
As stated, the mask was worn during both the 1974-75 and 1975-76 seasons with Pittsburgh, and when Inness was traded to the Flyers on March 9, 1976, he sent it back to maker Greg Harrison to quickly fashion a Flyers design to represent his new club, with the old V-shaped pattern from the Penguins design still visible through the white paint on the middle forehead section. The mask was then worn for a pair of games according to Inness. In gorgeous original condition with the paint still bold, light but definite use is exhibited over the paint, with a few marks visible, along with some chipping to the surface around the nose section, over the right cheek and above the right eye. A number of included numeric images of Inness with the Penguins have been matched to THE PERFECT PLACEMENT OF ALL HOLES ON THE HELMET.
