Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Leading the notable Edmonton Oilers alums that were all past Stanley Cup champions and taking on an equally-impressive and decorated Montreal Canadiens alumni squad, Wayne Gretzky took part in the “MegaStars” game that preceded the 2003 Heritage Classic, played at Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium, on Nov 22nd, 2003. Hailing from Shawn Chaulk’s personal collection and originating from two sources, we have a wonderful Gretzky collection of five – with each a desirable, stand alone piece - with a pair of skates along with a signed glove both worn in the game, as well as Gretzky's signed locker room nameplate, all from Mike Brown’s wife, along with a toque and wrist band also worn, with this pair coming from past Oilers training room attendant Dave Langford. First, the skates are custom made Nike V12 models with solid blue Tuuk Lightspeed blade holders, with “99” graphics on each outside heel, and “Gretzky 99” graphics over each outer ankle/lace support. Game use from a single contest is visible, with a few cuts and marks to the blade holders and light wear over each toe section. Next, the glove is a left-handed TPS HG1 model in Oilers colours, with “Gretzky” embroidered over the wrist guard, with a flawless silver paint pen signature placed directly above – perfect for display – with light expected use again visible, including a dark mark over the extended wrist padding. An LOA from Shawn Chaulk will accompany, as well as a second LOA and photo from Dave Langford, and please take note that this lot may be subject to a silent reserve.
Also included, we have a puck used in the contest. The toque is in solid navy blue, with a sewn Ford crest over the front, along with an “International” sticker affixed to the interior. The aforementioned photo (4” x 6”) that accompanies Dave Langford’s LOA picture’s Wayne on the ice with Langford, wearing this toque. The wrist band is solid black, with an affixed Easton crest. The locker room nameplate (2” x 15”) has “Wayne Gretzky 99” in black letters, with a Heritage Classic logo over the left and Oilers emblem over the right, with Wayne signing in blue marker near the “99”. There are small areas of foam over the reverse left from the removal, with a WGA hologram added. Lastly, the game-used puck has an Oilers logo over the front along with the date of the game, with a NHL crest over the reverse. Exhibiting light but definite use, an NHL hologram numbered “DH0000526” has been added.
