Their third World Series championship in franchise history, the Cincinnati Reds would claim the 1975 Fall Classic in a hard-fought seven games, with Pete Rose earning MVP honours. According to the included LOA, our consignor was a teenager in 1975 and attended Game 7, jumping onto the field with others at the conclusion to celebrate with the players and hopefully bring home a souvenir. Successful in that endeavor, this Reds cap was snatched from the head of catcher Bill Plummer in the melee that followed the victory. Featuring KM Pro Cap cloth and screened labels with 7 1/8 sizing over the inside band, the solid red cap has been finished with a thick “C” embroidered over the crown, with “9” handwritten in black marker on the underside of the bill.
The cap exhibits heavy game use, with sweat staining to the interior band and discolouration/staining along the underside of the bill, which is split down the middle. Despite the condition issues, the hat serves as an important relic from the historic Cincinnati Reds World Series championship of 1975.
