Two extremely popular post-apocalyptic science fiction/action works from the early-1980s, we have original one sheet movie posters for Escape from New York and Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. Released in 1981 and opening to favourable reviews, Escape from New York is set in 1997, when Manhattan Island is converted into a maximum security prison by the US government, with ex-soldier and federal prisoner Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell) given 24 hours to rescue the American president after Air Force One is hijacked. The second film in the popular Australian series and released in 1982, Mad Max 2 follows the exploits of "Mad" Max Rockatansky (Mel Gibson), as he attempts to assist a group of post-apocalyptic survivors against a band of psychotic marauders. Both folded as issued, the Escape from New York poster is the Australian one sheet version, while the Mad Max poster is the Style B one sheet. The Escape poster exhibits heavier wear along the fold lines including small breaks at intersections, with a clean surface and the colours remaining especially bold. There is also a crease that runs adjacently to the center fold line along the lower portion, with no pinholes present, with the title written in black ink over the reverse. The Mad Max poster also sports heavier wear along the fold lines with a few small intersection breaks, with wear to the surface/colours along the fold line over the lower third, with a few pinholes at each corner and paper loss over each reverse corner from a former mounting. Mad Max 2 was directed by George Miller and starred Bruce Spence, Emil Minty, Kjell Nilsson, and Vernon Wells, along with Mel Gibson. Escape from New York was directed by John Carpenter, and starred Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Donald Pleasence, Isaac Hayes, Harry Dean Stanton and Adrienne Barbeau, along with Kurt Russell.
