Featuring the founder of the Future Aces hockey school to develop young talent, Herb Carnegie played a single season in 1953-54 with the Owen Sound Mercurys of the OHA Seniors after spending four seasons with the Quebec Aces, with the Mercurys winning that season’s league championship. Hailing directly from his family, we have a wonderful cream and sugar set with engraved tray that was presented to Carnegie, along with a an Owen Sound Senior Champions medal. The tray is 6 ¼” x 9 ¾” and features wonderful scroll work, with engraved text that states “H Carnegie” as well as “Owen Sound Mercurys” and "Sr. A-O.H.A. Champs – 1953-54”. The cream dispenser and sugar bowl are each approx 3 ¼” in height including handles, while the medal is 1” x 1 ¼”, with small ribbon attached and engraved text listing the particulars including “Owen Sound”, “1954” and “Herb Carnegie”. An LOA from the star's family will accompany.
The tray exhibits wear from use including light tarnishing and spotting, with surface wear and scratches, with an area of discolouration over the reverse. There is also “Wm A. Rogers” stamped, along with “S.P. Copper”, “Lead MTS” and “8437”. The sugar bowl and cream dispenser both exhibit light to moderate wear, with the bottom lips on each slightly bent, with one handle on the sugar bowl repaired, and the other broken off but present. The medal is in beautiful condition and shows just very light wear, with a small groove over the “UN” of “SOUND” over the verso.
