Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
On the eve of claiming their first of four consecutive Stanley Cup championships in 1980, we have a pair of New York Islanders sticks including a team-signed example issued to Jean Potvin in the mid-1970s, along with a team-signed stick used by Bob Lorimer during the 1977-78 NHL season. The Potvin stick is a Sher-Wood model with intact striping accents along with “J. Potvin” and “4” stamped-on, with a date stamp on the underside that appears to state “20 Dec 1974”. With moderate age and storage wear, approx. 20 ballpoint signatures are present along the front side of the shaft including Potvin and HOFers Smith and Gillies, along with Harris, Nystrom, Westfall, St. Laurent, Stewart, Bourne, Drouin, Lewis and others. Most of the signatures display well, with a few lighter examples. The Lorimer stick is a KOHO Custom Pro 221 model with “Lorimer” over the upper shaft including handwritten “16”, with the original tape over the handle and knob. The front side of the shaft has been shaved down to accommodate signatures, with approx. 22 signing including HOFer Bryan Trottier along with Bourne, Nystrom, Persson, Kaszycki, Henning, Westfall, Howatt, Bergeron, Lewis, Marshall, Resch, J. Potvin and others. Solid with light use visible, the stick and signatures remain in excellent condition.
