The head of the U.S. Food Administration and the American Relief Administration before his Presidential aspirations, Herbert Hoover would heavily defeat Democrat Al Smith in the 1928 election to serve as the 31st President of the United States, in office during the Great Depression, from March 4, 1929 to March 4, 1933. We have a pair of signed calling cards, with an example from Hoover and a card signed by First Lady Lou Henry Hoover, along with a third card with presidential seal with handwritten text from Lou Henry Hoover along with her initials. At approx 2 ¾” x 4 ¼”, “The White House Washington” appears over the upper right on each signed card, with both Hoover and his wife adding flawless fountain pen signatures. The third card is slightly smaller, with the gold-coloured Presidential seal above the text, with the First Lady initialing over the reverse. The Hoover and initialed card exhibit just toning, while the card signed by the First Lady has paper/glue residue over each reverse corner from prior scrapbook mounting. Hoover would pass away in New York City in 1964 at 90 years of age. A pair of LOAs from JSA will accompany, one for the two signed calling cards, and one for the card initialed by the First Lady.
