Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame as a builder in 1965, Fred J Hume served as mayor of Vancouver from 1951 to 1958 and was instrumental in bringing the NHL to the East Coast. The Canucks team award for unsung hero is named the Fred J. Hume Award in his honour, with the New Westminster native enshrined as a Hockey Hall of Fame Builder in 1962. We have a letter addressed to Hume from Clarence Campbell regarding the former’s recent induction, signed by the league president, accompanied by a 7” x 9” photo of Hume. At approx 7 ¼” x 10 ¾” and on NHL letterhead, the June 11th 1962 typed correspondence has been signed by Campbell in black ink along the bottom, with the signature overlapping text. Affixed to a scrapbook page, the letter exhibits a few fold lines and surface wrinkles along with toning. The accompanying photo shows moderate wear and pictures Hume with a pair of gentlemen, with a stamp from photographer Gordie Sedawie over the reverse.
