Led by team patriarchs Maurice Richard and Gordie Howe, the Montreal Canadiens and Detroit Red Wings would dominate the 1950s, with just the single season of 1950-51 the only time during the decade that the Stanley Cup wasn’t won by either club. We have a game-used puck that saw action between the two giants, on March 4th 1956. An Art Ross Tyer example that was used by the NHL from approx 1950 to 1958, both rubberized logos remain intact, with the puck originally located at the estate sale of a former Detroit Olympia usher. “Det & Mont 3-4-‘56” has been written in chalk, encompassing the logo over one side, with a large “B” written over the logo on the other. This information has also been written along the side of the puck, as well as “6-4 Montreal”.
A quick check confirms that the score was indeed 6-4 for Montreal. Both sides of the puck exhibit large cuts/slices including on that goes through one of the rubberized logos, with a few other small grooves and blemishes present.
