Finishing second in the West Division when the 1973-74 NHL season concluded - posting only 14 loses, the Chicago Black Hawks then eliminated the Kings before succumbing to the dominant Bruins in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. We have a Black Hawks jersey from the 1973-74 season, with this desirable example sporting number #59 showing evidence of former numbers, with the #59 later added, as no player wore that particular number until Sergei Krivokrasov in 1993. A Wilson label with “48” sizing sits above a Gunzo’s tag with both partially affixed to the collar, with the Gunzo’s heavily frayed. Styled with the famous multi-coloured Indian head team crest with chain-stitched detailing, “59” has been placed over the sleeves and verso in layered white-over-black tackle twill, with matching chain-stitched tomahawk crests over each shoulder. While no fight strap is present, a “74 P.O.” swatch denoting playoffs use is situated over the inside hem.
Recycled by the Hawks organisation, either with the team or to an affiliate, and "59" numbers on the jersey were later added at some point. A ton of use is exhibited on the vintage durene garment, with marks over the front band and left sleeve, with a number of fabric pulls/runs to the material. There are also a few holes, including over the front, left sleeve and reverse, with minor yellow and green staining over the front and reverse hems respectively. Team repairs are also prevalent, with numerous large examples on each lower sleeve, as well as a couple additional repairs over the front, reverse and right shoulder.
