Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
This unique “Toronto Maple Leafs 1942-43” hand-painted sign from the team’s Maple Leaf Gardens dressing room commemorates the Leafs’ 26th season. HOFers Smythe, Selke, Day, Pratt, Apps, Broda and Sweeney Schriner are among the Leafs execs, staff and players listed along with Toronto’s regular season record at the bottom. Hand-lettered in dark blue paint on an off-white background with a Masonite backing, this historic sign is displayed in its original 41 ½” x 20" blue wood frame with the original Waddington's tag from the MLG November 2000 auction still attached. Very nicely preserved, this original display will be the focus within any advanced Blue and White collection.
The sign exhibits some toning along with a few errant blue paint streaks, with surface loss over “Bill Taylor”. There is also wear to the frame, with paint loss in spots, especially along edges, with a pair of holes at center from its former mounting.
