Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019

An Eddie Shore silver matchbook cover leads in terms of importance and value here, with many hobbyists rightfully considering Diamond Match issues undervalued compared to cards from the same era. Flattened for decades and with no unsightly flaws, the Shore is joined by Hall of Famers Bill Cook and Harry Oliver, as well as 23 others, including 11 different, with heavy duplication of Murdoch and Sheppard (5 each). The “tan” lineup is dominated by (53) Type 1 entries, again with duplication and highlighted by HOFers Aurele Joliat, Ching Johnson (2), Syd Howe (3), Red Dutton (2) and Earl Seibert. A half-dozen Type 2s include Dutton (2), Nels Stewart and Roy Worters, with all but three of 23 Type 3s missing their original strikers. A grab bag of Black Hawk subjects and Types 4, 5 and 6 constitute the rest, with again, multiples of certain players. March, Karakas, Gottselig, Burke and others are present.
Condition varies throughout with some rough striker areas among the silvers observed and the majority of the tans, save for the Type 3s, in pleasing collectible condition. A small two-digit number in pen is on the reverse of the Shore, Cook and Oliver silver examples.
