Well built and especially strong, Mark Messier excelled at physical play, with hefty PIMs during his earlier years. We have a signed stick that was used by the 1994 Stanley Cup champion in the late-1980s while with Edmonton, with this particular example gifted from the superstar directly to our consignor, Ken Daniels. A sportscaster with CBC from 1985 to 1997, Daniels is currently the play-by-play announcer for the Detroit Red Wings on Fox Sports Detroit. A Sher-Wood PMP 9030 model, “Messier” and “11” appear on the upper shaft, with “11” also handwritten in blue just above the name stamp. A factory date code appearing to read “Sep 1988” is visible over the underside, which would put use in the 1988-89 NHL season. An LOA from Ken Daniels will accompany.
The desirable lumber retains its original black tape over the blade and handle, with Messier adding a large black marker signature over the front side heel. The stick exhibits light to moderate use, with minimal wear to the blade including a split in the tape along the top side, with a minor crack and small piece broken away from the toe section. There is also both blue and red paint transfer visible over the shaft.
