A gold medal winner with Sweden at both the Winter Olympics and World Championships, netminder Stefan Liv was a member of the KHL’s Lokomotiv Yaroslavl club that sadly perished in the 2011 plane crash. The Swedish Hockey League's playoff MVP award is now known as the Stefan Liv Memorial Trophy in his honour. Worn the entire 2005-2006 championship season for HV71 of the Swedish Elite League and donned again during the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino where Sweden captured gold, we have a photo-matched “Star Wars” themed mask worn by the Polish-born star. Produced by Warwick and featuring artwork by David Gunnarsson, “HV71” appears over the forehead section with “1” over the chin, with caricatures of certain characters including Vader and Yoda on either side.
Moderate to heavy sweat staining is present as the mask saw prolonged use, with numerous chips visible along the chin section. There are also a few blemishes over the headplate, with detailed information handwritten within the interior including “Marty Turco style”. An included numeric image from the 2006 Olympics has been matched to the aforementioned chipping along the chin section.
