Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018

In perfect, impossible-to-ask-for-nicer condition is this 1960-61 Parkie picturing Montreal's Bill Hicke. Card #40 features perfect centering, with the four snowy white borders, the sharp corners and the smooth edges also striking. Joining the gorgeous scarcity in the GEM MT 10 column of the PSA Population Report are three other similar Hicke cards. PSA numbers also inform that 142 Hicke examples have been inspected by graders since the company began operations and that just 14 even made it to Mint 9. For '60-61 Parkies, (all players/cards combined), less than 1% have merited GEM MT 10 status, with 70 total 10s out of over 7500 submissions. The write-up on the back reveals that Hicke had a disappointing first NHL season following an MVP and rookie-of-the-year campaign with AHL Rochester, (he won the scoring title) and concludes with "experts figure he should eventually star in the NHL". Although that didn't materialize, this Bill will forever star at PSA while contributing to a big-time encapsulated collection and portfolio.
