Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Drafted by the Calgary Flames at 25 while already an accomplished international player, Sergei Makarov spent 11 seasons with the feared CSKA Moscow squad, making his debut in Alberta in 1989-90 where he would score 86 points in his first 80 NHL contests, enough to garner the prestigious Calder Memorial Trophy. We have a Flames jersey worn in 1990-91 by the 2016-HOF inductee. A Maska Air-Knit label sits affixed to the collar with the jersey measuring-out to a size 50, with embroidered CCM and NHL crests over the reverse bottom hem. Styled with an attractive layered Flames team crest fully administered in red and yellow tackle twill, the white mesh V-neck has been accented with dual-colour sleeve and verso numbers in matching material, including “Makarov” over the affixed nameplate.
Numerous large stick marks are present over the lower front and upper right sleeve, with a small hole visible over the striping band on the lower front. There are also board burns along with paint transfer over the right sleeve, with the team crest, nameplate and sleeve and verso numbers all showing evidence of numerous washings. We should also note the yellowing discolouration present over the reverse of the team crest, nameplate and back numbers, with this also seen on another Makarov Flames jersey from the same season that resides in a private collection.
