Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018

It is impossible to overstate the impact Slap Shot has had on the game of hockey. The 1977 feature film starring the late Paul Newman is a cult classic whose numerous quotable lines are commonly used throughout the game to this day. Well remembered for the unrestrained bedlam the Hanson brothers delivered to opponents, especially while “putting on the foil”, we are pleased to offer an actual Charlestown Chiefs jersey that was film-worn by Jeff Carlson (Jeff Hanson), with this desirable specimen multi-signed by cast members including all three Hanson brothers! Made of the highest quality material for the era, Rawlings size “46” labeling sits affixed to the collar, with no other tagging present on the wonderful durene film prop. Featuring the iconic “Chiefs” team crest fully administered in blue-over-yellow layered tackle twill, the vintage white V-neck has been accented with the sleeve and verso numbers in matching material, with the Charlestown All-American City shield crest over the left shoulder. Signed entirely in blue marker and encompassing the team crest, “Old Time Hockey” has been written beneath the neckline, with the signatures from Jerry Houser (Killer), Paul D'Amato (Dr. Hook), Allan F. Nicholls (Upton), Dave Hanson (Jack Hanson), Steve Carlson (Steve Hanson), Yvon Barrette (Denis Lemieux) and Jeff Carlson (Jeff Hanson) all present and accounted for.
The important film-worn jersey exhibits a few small holes and fabric pulls, with a large portion of the threading detached over the reverse and left sleeve’s numbers, with each digit still firmly attached. There is also some puckering to the numbers and team crest, with the yellow tackle twill beneath the blue curling along some edges. The Charlestown All-American City shield crest also exhibits heavy wear/fading, with what appears to be a small amount of red paint transfer over the lower left sleeve. Despite these minor flaws, the jersey displays beautifully, and serves as a wonderful piece of Hollywood history.
