Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Victorian items with a connection to hockey are seldom seen and highly sought, and we offer just that, with these 2 pairs of antique late 19th century ice skates. Constructed with solid steel blades and finished wooden bases, each pair sports intact leather hardware, with one pair sporting traces of the original dark red finish. That pair features curled blade tips with a few of the straps remaining, with heavily pitted blades. The second pair feature squared curled-tip blades with no visible maker’s mark, along with a single intact strap. The final pair include fully intact leather strapping, with each blade stamped “The Sam L Winslow Skate M’F’G CO – Worchester Mass USA”.
The pair with remaining red paint shows considerable wear to the bases, with each cracked, with the blade loose on one skate. The Winslow pair exhibit a few minor cracks to one skate, with just expected wear commensurate with both their age and former use. The final pair exhibit heavy pitting to the blades, with one leather ankle support intact. There is also a bolt plate missing, with some white paint visible over one base.
