Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
HOF goalie Billy Smith’s 1977-78 New York Islanders team-signed stick bears autographs that span the franchise’s beginnings, including its fabled playoff run in 1975, through key elements that produced their 1980s Stanley Cup dynasty. “Smith” is stamped below Battlin’ Billy’s tape job on the knob of his Koho gamer, which also has his original tape job on the blade. Smith, fellow HOFer Mike Bossy, goaltending partner Chico Resch, and Bob Bourne, Bob Nystrom, Billy Harris and Lorne Henning are among the 13 black marker autographs on the front of the shaft, which was sanded bare for the signatures to be applied. Some vintage tape was added to the lower paddle and tape was removed from the upper paddle.
Garry Howatt, Gerry Hart, Bert Marshall and Jean Potvin are among the others who have signed.
There is a crack on the upper edge of the blade at the heel.
