Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018

Second only to Wayne Gretzky for the highest career points-per-game total, Mario Lemieux currently sits 8th on the all-time points list, scoring 1,723 in only 915 games. Celebrating his 600th career point, we have the stick used by The Magnificent One to net the milestone point, vs the Islanders, on Dec 20th 1988. His first of two goals in the game, Mario would also add a pair of assists for a memorable 4-point night. A KOHO model with “Lemieux” stamped-on and “66” handwritten, a factory code appears along the underside, with the stick retaining its original tape over the handle/knob. The blade tape has been removed so that Lemieux could add a beautiful black marker signature across the front side along with “600th Point Dec 20th 1988 vs Islanders”. The number has been written a second time, with “600” in marker over the butt end. From a season that witnessed Mario earn the Art Ross and score a career-high 199 points, this stick merits inclusion within the greatest of Penguins or Lemieux collections.
Nice use is exhibited on the lumber, with wear to the blade and marks to the shaft. There is also a large crack midway up the shaft that separates the fiberglass. Despite this, the stick remains solid and perfect for display.
