Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
Extremely desirable and rarely found in any condition, we have a scarce Pittsburgh Penguins “white chevrons” jersey that was attributed to both Denis Heron and Bob Johnson during the 1974-75 NHL season. The rarest of all 1970s Penguins durene examples, a Rawlings size “52” label sits affixed to the collar, with no other tagging present. Currently void of the original Penguins team crest, the vintage V-neck has been accented with black tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers with blue trim. The blue and grey “chevron” pattern is visible over the sleeves despite each being custom-shortened, with the fight strap cut and discarded. Originating from 1970s Pittsburgh equipment manager John P. Doolan, his signed LOA states that he acquired the garment in 1976.
As mentioned, the sweater is currently without its team crest, with the sleeves shortened. Four team repairs are visible over the lower front, with a few smaller examples over the reverse. There is also some pilling around the collar.
