Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
From the exciting world of Formula One racing, we have a Nigel Stepney-signed Eddie Irvine-style replica helmet, with this example most likely worn by the Brit circa 2000 while assuming refuelling duties for Ferrari. Manufactured by Bieffe, decals are present over the sides and front from Marlboro and Shell, with additional examples over the lower front and chin section from Ferrari. There is also a Tic Tac/Marlboro visor strip, with “NS” handwritten over the original Bieffe interior label. Nigel has signed over the reverse in black marker, with a few “scratches” through the signature. The helmet itself shows nice wear with a few marks over the top section present along with scratches to the visor, with the interior foam dried-out and flaking.
Also included with the lot, we have a 5” x 7” photo of Stepney that has been signed in black marker. The chief mechanic for Ferrari, Stepney was also a central figure in the 2007 Formula One espionage controversy.
