Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019

The rookie cards of numerous gridiron stars who began their memorable careers in the 1980s highlight this run, with the RCs of quarterback legends Joe Montana, Dan Marino and John Elway leading the way. The Montana entry from 1981 features an image a little left of center and is NM. With bang-on centering and NM-MT is the Marino RC from ’85, the same year that offers up a NM Elway rookie. The cards throughout the collection exhibit very little handling and wear and look to be sharp NM-or-better examples. A curvature in some of the sets is to note, with a Jerry Rice RC tops among the rest, the 1987 representative NM. Other notable rookie cards to be discovered include those of, (in chronological order), Art Monk, Kellen Winslow, Lawrence Taylor, Ronnie Lott, Marcus Allen, Jim McMahon, Mike Singletary, Howie Long, Eric Dickerson, Darrell Green, Warren Moon, Steve Young, Reggie White and Bo Jackson. Please see our website for a rundown of the complete set and near set lineup, as well as a swell bonus.
Complete sets are from 1981, ’82, ’83, ’85, ’88 and ’90, the latter being an unopened factory set, while likely complete are ensembles from ’87 and ’89 (they’re still in their unsorted form, the way they came out of factory sets). A Roger Craig rookie card is all that is required to complete the 1984 group, with two commons, (#s 53 and 83) missing from ’86. A nifty bonus is a Montreal Machine team-signed football, with 40 autographs penned to an official Wilson ball. The Machine competed in the World League of American Football (WLAF) in 1991 and ’92.
