Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Hailing from the 1975-76 season that witnessed the Winnipeg Jets cap the team's fourth WHA campaign with their first Avco World Trophy, we have a Winnipeg Jets Avco Cup Championship 10K gold ring that was presented to Jets committee director Ivan Berkowitz. Led by hockey legend Bobby Hull, Winnipeg lost just once in 13 playoffs games, sweeping Gordie Howe's two-time reigning champion Houston Aeros in the finals. Berkowitz's 10-karat gold championship ring weighs about 24 grams and features "Winnipeg Jets" in raised gold on the inner bezel and "75 WHA 76 Champions" surrounding the outer bezel. "Jets" appears in gold lettering on the huge blue stone set in the tableau. "Berkowitz" and a Jets logo are displayed on the left shank, while the WHA logo appears on the right shank with "Avco Cup" above. The size 7 ½ ring has "Jostens 10K" stamped inside the band, and it would make for a wonderful matching accompaniment piece to Ivan Berkowitz’s 1975-76 Avco Cup, also offered in this auction.
Moderate to heavy wear is present over the outer band with scratches and a few tiny nicks, with additional wear, scratches and nicks over the sides and along edges. The ring would also benefit from a proper cleaning.
