Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Already a heavily-seasoned veteran when this stick was used by the legendary Gordie Howe in the early-1960s, sticks slowly made the evolution throughout the period of Howe’s career from heavier solid wood examples to the lighter fibreglass-wrapped sticks like the offered specimen. A Northland Pro model that originates from our consignor’s dad – a stick boy in the 1960s - “Howe” appears over the upper shaft, with “9” handwritten and currently faint. Additional stamps are visible on each side of the shaft from supplier Olympic, with the stick retaining it’s original black tape over the blade and handle, with a few strands missing along the toe section of the blade. We should also note a loose fibreglass strand along the blade. Heavy use is exhibited, with numerous puck marks and abrasions to the blade and lower shaft, with a small crack at the tip of the blade along with a small missing section from the top of the tip.
