Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Currently on top of the hockey world after winning his first Stanley Cup championship in the spring of 2018, Alexander Ovechkin remains one of the only players to have been selected to either the NHL First or Second All-Star Teams in each of his first 6 seasons. Hailing from the 2011-12 campaign, we have a signed and photo-matched helmet worn by the Russian superstar and later donated personally to a February 3rd 2012 charity event held in conjunction with Classic Auctions, with Ovechkin attending. A Bauer model in solid white with intact visor, harness and strapping, stickers from the maker including a serial number are visible within the interior. Team decals have been placed over each side, with number “8” decals in solid red over both the forehead and reverse. An NHL shield crest also appears over the lower right reverse, with a team decal now missing from the lower left.
Alexander has signed the helmet over the top center in black marker, with just a tiny bit of loss from rubbing. Great use is exhibited, with numerous scratches, marks and abrasions present, along with general wear to the visor. A pair of late-December 2011 games photos (roughly a month prior to the charity event held on February 3rd 2012) have been matched to the small piece of Bauer sticker missing on the right ear side, and to the 3 loose threads at the end of the strap.
