Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Canada’s 16th World Championship victory, the 1955 tournament was hosted by the West Germans, with the Penticton Vees representing the mighty maple leaf. The 36-match tournament final took place on March 6th, with the Vees shutting-out the powerful Soviets 5-0. We have a small trophy modeled after the example presented for the championship, with this specimen awarded to Vees player Dick Warwick, along with a limited-edition Warwick brothers signed poster. At just under 10” in height, the Deco-style cup has been mounted to a 3 ½” black wooden base, with “Penticton V’s World Hockey Champions 1955 Dick Warwick” engraved over the trophy’s front. Heavy oxidation is present in spots, with wear along the inner rim. Some loss to the finish along the lower reverse has also occurred, with the black base most likely repainted at some point.
The 17” x 22” poster features images of the three brothers, with each signing beneath their respective image. Numbered “57/500” and exhibiting light wear, a sticker from JSA numbered “R86257” has been affixed with a matching Basic Certification to accompany.
Dick Warwick was born in Regina in 1928, and his hockey career included apperances for the New Westminster Royals, Nanaimo Clippers, Tacoma Rockets, Trail Smoke Eaters, Kamloops Chiefs and Kitchener-Waterloo Dutchmen. Warwick passed in 2015 at the age of 87.
